Motorcycle Repair: regarding cam shaft problem, cam shaft, valve clearances

Question
Hi there,

I have a 2002 honda cbr600f4i, with about 1700 miles, it's brand new essentialy. When i give it gas, starting at about 3000rpm the engine sounds like someone marbles are bouncing around. Taking it to my local shop, they told me it's a cam shaft tightner problem, so for a price of $230 they fixed it for me. But it still make a sligt rattling sound, is there any way i can tighten it or adjust it? Perhaps i should take it back to the shop? Let me know what you think and please email me with your response if possible.

Thanks Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear about your MC problem.

There's not enough information in the description to know exactly what was repaired. Given that, I would need to inspect the MC to accurately diagnose the problem.

It's normal for valves to make ticking sounds as valve clearances become excessive. There's no danger, though should be checked and adjusted according to the periodic maintenance schedule.

Did the shop replace valves, cams, or tensioner? Can you describe exactly what work was performed? Need detailed info to help.

I don't have an email addy for you. AllExperts gets it when you ask a question. They use it for returning my reply to you, but I don't see it.

Respectfully,
