Towing Issues: towed vehicle, wrecker service, tow truck driver

My truck was in an accident Saturday night.  The police had it towed by a private company to their tow yard.  It is not impounded.  When I went to get my radio from the truck the tow
truck driver said I could not get near the truck until I gave him
a check for $10,000.00.  It is not his truck so I'm confused why
he even has it.  Can I have it towed to my house while I'm waiting for an insurance adjuster to save storage fees?

I don't understand why the vehicle was towed. Is the vehicle damaged where you cannot drive it? Did you ask for it to be towed? By their lot, you mean the wrecker service's lot? What state are you in? Why are they asking for $10,000.00? What type of truck is it? Also if you have insurance they should have to pay for the towing and storage.
