Towing Issues: illegal towing, hypothetical question

Hi,
If I have traveled for visisting Maryland and my car is towed by a towed truck company that the apt. complex hired,saying my tag is expired when they are not because i have legal extented time issued by the state i actually reside in? then how do i get my car back without paying the towing comppany?

If this is a hypothetical question then avoid the situation and put the valid the sticker on the plate. If it's not then it would have been your responsibility to inform all parties involved before the tow. If that wasn't done reimbursement will be difficult.
