Towing Issues: Towed vehicle from highway, storage fees, wrecked vehicle

Question
My son was cited, but not arrested in an accident on an interstate. His car was well off the highway and not a traffic hazard. Before he could call the tow company provided by our insurance, the police called a wrecker and had it removed. My insurance refuses to pay the bill. Why would the police remove a vehicle that was not a traffic hazard or impounded?

Answer
well there is a lot more to this question than you have listed here.

First of all any wrecked vehicle left beside the highway will generate more calls to the police requiring them to keep responding... So a lot of time they remove the potential hazards for that reason.

Second I wish to point out that people driving do tend to look at vehicles which are in ditches or been in an accident and that can cause more accidents due to the inattention of the other drivers.

Now the police also can not wait for some insurance companies and motor clubs to send tow trucks as I really hate to say this (this is what I see almost every day at work), the motor clubs and insurance companies will "SHOP AROUND" for the cheapest rates before they send someone to get it.

I have seen calls for prices come in to the office and 5 or more hours later we get the call to go ahead and do the call.

Now as to the insurance company not wanting to pay, that is typical, but as long as you have the coverage then they are bound by the insurance policy to cover the expenses up to the limits of coverage.
Keep in mind that some programs have dollar limits of coverage...(did you know that most roadside plans provided by cell service providers have a $50.00 max limit)

Hope this helps, but keep on the insurance company about paying for the tow and storage fees if you have full coverage or towing insurance.
