Towing Issues: Towing, legal answer, doot

Question
QUESTION: My place of employment never has enough parking for the staff and the customers. My employer has an agreement with an establishment next doot that we may use thier parking spots and we do. We recently recieved a memo from our employer stating we must always park in the establishment next door (to leave open spots for the customers), never in our own parking lot and they want our registration and insurance information because if we do not park in the other parking lot we will get three warnings and then they will have our car towed at our expense. Can I really be towed out of the parking lot of where I work? Is this legal?

ANSWER: It is private property but I would have an issue if my employer could not provide parking for the employees. If they have an agreement with the company next door then they are at least providing the employees with a place to park.

QUESTION: I am curious if my employer can actually tow my car? You mentioned it is private property but my employer does not own the property/building he rents it and I am almost certain the owner has no knowledge of my employers decision to have our cars towed if we do not park in the parking lot of the other company.

Answer
Even if your employer only leases or rents the property he still has the right to have vehicles towed since he is in charge of the property. It is just like when you lease or rent a residence. If you have a union or some type of system established to file a complaint I would try that first. What state are you in and what type of business is it?
