Towing Issues: Question regarding Dollies, vw jetta, charge thanks

Question
QUESTION: I recently had my g/f's vehicle towed from my complex stating exceeding guest parking.  The vehicle is a 00 vw jetta, when I went to pay the tow bill they had a $50 charge for using dollies.  The female there stated she believed it was so they didn't damage the oil pan.  Something about it doesn't seem correct and seems completely unneeded.  Is there any reason why they may have needed to use the dollies and if not is there anyway to fight to get my $50 back for the charge?  Thanks for the help

ANSWER: You stated that you had the vehicle towed? Is that correct? Just wanted to make sure so I know how to properly answer the question

QUESTION: Sorry about that, to be more specific, it was towed from the complex without our knowledge.  We woke up the next morning to see it gone

Answer
depending on what type of wrecker was used, probably a wheel lift it is sometimes necessary to use a dolly. Dollies are generally used if a vehicle is an AWD or 4WD. I have never heard of dollies being used due to ground clearance. If the towing company or operator decided he needed them then there isn't really any way to judge otherwise. Dollies are sometimes difficult to use and most operators would rather not use them unless they have to.
