Towing Issues: 2008 Tundra, rv salesman, 2008 toyota tundra

Question
2008 Toyota Tundra SR5 4x4 extended cab, 6AT, 5.7L w/tow package.
Can this truck tow a travel trailer that weighs 8000lbs.

Answer
I'll refer you to trailer life and camping life for references since I don't know all the options, specs and weight ratings of your truck. Also don't know if you are fifth wheeling or bumper pulling which makes some difference. Here's the links http://www.trailerlife.com/output.cfm?ID=42175 http://www.campinglife.com/towrating/ Is this an empty trailer at 8000 pounds or fully loaded trailer with propane, water, supplies, etc. Don't forget to calculate the additional weight in the truck with passengers and supplies. My opinion is it's too much weight even if it's within specs, it would be too close to or at maximum capacity all the time. Some reasoning is the geography, towing 8000 pounds in the flat lands is a different story in mountain country. Another reason is most Tundra's are 4x4 with off road/all terrain tires with flexible side walls. Assuming the 8,000 travel trailer is in the 30 foot or more range I would think there would be sway problems. There are weight distributing hitches with sway controls that try to eliminate some sway but you may find yourself white knuckling more than you care for, especially in windy conditions. You could change the tires with "E" ratings but doesn't solve the other problems. My suggestion with a trailer that big and heavy is a dually or chose a much smaller a lighter trailer for your truck. Don't let the RV salesman fool you, he doesn't have to tow it.
