Towing Issues: what do i do??, storage fees, driving without a license

Question
hello,
a friend of mine, well, ex friend took my vehicle yesterday without permission and was arrested on the naval base where we are stationed for driving without a license as well as other charges. i am currently on restriction and cant leave my ship for another 26 days to get my vehicle, and i have no idea where my vehicle was towed. how do i go about getting my car back?

Answer
Since you are unavailable you can have someone act on your behalf. That person will need a notarized letter or power of attorney from you given the description of the vehicle, vin, color, etc. to give them authorization for retrieval, copy of the title or registration in your name (registration maybe in the car) which proves your ownership. Of course the towing and storage fees must be paid and the person acting on your behalf will have to show proper id along with the other mentioned paperwork. The JAG on your ship can help with the power of attorney or notarized letter. As for which towing company has the vehicle contact the arresting police department as a report would have been recorded. The towing company may require other information as well so once the vehicle is found contact the tow company if any additional items are required. Good luck
