Towing Issues: private property impound, apartment complexes, parking permits

Question
my car was towed from a apartment complex and there aren't any signs saying your car will be towed if you leave your car there. my question is are apartment complex suppose to have those signs up. Back story on my car it had stopped running and it was stuck there. I live about 15 miles or so from where my car was so i couldn't afford to have it towed to where i live right at that moment.

Answer
In most cases, parking enforced areas require some sort of enforcement sign or postings at the entrances or on the buildings. Most private parking areas such as apartment complexes are enforced with parking permits or decals. Which may be the case with your vehicle if one wasn't obtained. Since you were not a tenant or a visitor with permission to park there, in most cases, your vehicle would have been towed. In some situations posting are not required on private property because it is expressed and enforced in a lease agreement or contract and the tenants are required to obtain parking passes for visitors' which doesn't sound like that is your case. Since the city, county and state wasn't mentioned in your question my suggestion is checking with the locality with such requirements for more in depth research. Good luck and hope this may give some insight of why the vehicle was towed.
