Towing Issues: Illegal Tow?, attorney generals office, state attorney generals

Question
Hello,
Today I drove to my local CVS in Miami Beach, FL. I parked in a lot that they provide for parking. I made my purchase and exited the store and discovered that my car had been towed. Apparently CVS rents the lot from a landlord and the owners of the lot stake it out. If they don't SEE someone walk into CVS they call for a tow. I was charged $175 (cash because they didn't take credit) to get my car out of storage. I feel that I was wrongfully taken advantage of.  I've saved my CVS receipt and I called CVS's manager. They said this has happened a lot to their customers. I feel that this towing company is abusing their relationship with CVS and it's customers. Either way, I want to pursue trying to get my money back. Do you think this has any chance?

Answer
Yes, you absolutely have a case. There are several predatory towing websites on the internet. I would first contact the owner of the towing company and follow it up in writing. You need to ask to get a copy of the signed towing authorization for your vehicle. I would also file a complaint with the better business bureau and the state attorney generals office. Once you get things started let me know what you need. Make sure to get the managers name and contact information and if possible get him to write a statement to go along with your receipt.
