Towing Issues: damage done to car when impounded and while possesion of the impound, drive wheels, rear wheel drive

Question
My car was just towed from an apartment complex I'm curious to know if any damage was done to my car when they towed it if they are responsible for it. I set my parking break every time i park my car so say they pull my cars alignment off are they responsible for it? Also are they responsible for any damage done to my car while they are in possession of my car ?

Answer
That all depends on what type of car (front or rear wheel drive or AWD), how it was parked (pulled in or backed in, what type of wrecker was used (roll back, wheel lift or sling). It also depends on whether the towing company uses dollies or go jacks to allow drive wheels that are on the ground to roll freely. Most reputable towing agencies provide damage free towing and it would be very rare to mess up the alignment on the front end unless the drug the car sideways (which still probably would not affect it.) However, any towing agency is responsible for any damage they cause while removing and transporting a vehicle or while it is stored at their lot (such as if they hit it while backing another vehicle in etc). Despite some companies posting signs that they are not responsible for fire or theft, depending on the state and local jurisdiction they could be responsible for that also. If you happen to know how it was towed or any other details, let me know and I will be glad to see if I can help. It would also be apparent from an inspection of the vehicle if they drug the vehicle to load it or move it from the parking spot.
