Towing Issues: Tow yard people not retng phone calls., small claims court, tow company

Question
My '28 semi trailer was towed and I found about it 2 weeks after the fact and I've called 5 times to talk to the guy in charge about trying to get it back and the charges. The dispactcher told me it would be 2,700 bucks if I picked it up that day well I thought that was crazy! He told me that the guy who could help me out with maybe making a payment plan would call me back, well 5 calls later nothing. What can I do?????

Answer
Well since I do not know where this happened (City or State wise) its hard to cite any laws which may help you with the answers, but as to the person who is not calling you back, it is hard at times to catch the right person in the company (owners or managers) as in a lot of small companies that person is also a driver and working all the time.

Towing fees for larger vehicles such as tractors or trailers or both also are higher fees as it is a whole different pricing schedule also.
Depending on where this is, I know of some areas of the US where a semi trailer is over $100.00  a day to store it on the tow company yard. (think ground rental like for parking spaces at the airports)

Now if your vehicle was towed, and it took you 2 weeks to find it, I am wondering how you did manage to find it. Was it a result of a letter notifying you that it had been towed, sent either by the police department or the tow company. Or was it you drove around and called every tow company in the area?

Did you try calling the police to report it stolen at all, as in most places the police are notified that the vehicle was towed so that a stolen report is not filed.

As to fighting this and all that, again it goes back to what state you are in, as some have hearings which you can have regarding the towing reason. And then as to the fees, well in some areas the rates are regulated for towing. But again  no information I can help with since I am missing vital information.

Small claims court is always an option in every case, but act fast and get the vehicle out since each day it goes up and in many cases in like 30 to 60 days the vehicle goes up for lien sale and you will lose it.
