Towing Issues: Tow Timelines?, letter in the mail, state dmv

Question
I recently had my car towed in Aurora near Arapahoe and I-25. It was towed from a neighborhood on the 29th of June. I went looking for the car around the 4th of July and couldn't find it anywhere. I just got a letter in the mail from 1st class towing in Parker dated for the 14th of July. Now I have to pay them 900 dollars and I dicn't know where the car was until then. Is there a timeframe that a tower has to get in touch with the vehicle owner? (Since it took 17 days for me to find out who had it at 30 dollars a day.)

Answer
Well I have to question "YOUR TIME LINE ALSO" since you did not go looking for the vehicle for 6 days to begin with...

And I have to say that every vehicle towed has to be called into the police department which covers that area so that "stolen vehicle reports" are not filed when its towed.

Now as to the notices, I have to say that first of all, the tow company has to tow it, then they have to contact the DMV to get the information on who owns the vehicle.  This appears to have happened over the holidays, so you would have days off where the State DMV and the post office are closed.

Then the tow company sends a letter (usually certified) that says it towed the vehicle and that it will be sold at some point.  That takes time also.

Sorry but I think that its legal, and they followed the laws which are set by the PUC office of the state.  Check out the long link and go way down to towing and then you can start to see the notifications (it will not link direct as it is a pdf file)
