Towing Issues: Towed away right before me, tow company, glove compartment

Question
I walked outside last night to find two guys who said they were towing my car because it didn't have the pass on the mirror. I realized that it was in my glove compartment so I didn't lose it so I simply pulled it out and showed it to them before they hooked up my car. They said they were still taking the car and did so not long after. Turns out they don't even contact the apartment complex they're just given permission to tow any vehicles without passes. If I showed them my pass before they even hooked it up did they have a legal right to still tow it?

Answer
well it sounds like the tow company has permission to "patrol tow" which in many areas is legal, provided they have a signed contract with the apartment complex management...

But since you did not mention the City or State you are in, I can not provide specific information for you...

As to towing it even after you showed the permit which was not visible at the time they arrived, well it again goes to the laws. Ethical or not, you were in violation and the permit was not displayed.

In some areas, the tow company can tow the vehicle or demand payment even if they are not hooked up as a drop fee or show up fee.

Hope this helps a bit but without the key information I can not help specifically
