Towing Issues: towing for expired tags, valid drivers license, inpound

Question
Hi
They towed my car and I was parked on the street of an apartment complex (no parking structure in the apartments) then about one hour later my car was towed becuase of expired tags. I paid my tags the next day and the DMV won't give me my permit to move my car from the inpound becuase it won't be in there system for 72 busness hrs. I have insurance and everything but still won't give me my 1 day moving permit. Therfore, my car will be in the pound for 72 more hrs. So I have to pay a large fee everday until I get my permit to move it. Can they charge me everyday including the weekend? That would be a LARGE fee! Can I do anything to lower the fees?

Answer
Its strange that DMV will not issue a permit if you have paid the fees to get the tags, but then again I do not know what state you are in.
That makes a big difference in the rules and regulations which affects the answers..

But generally, until the vehicle is legal (tags, insurance, valid drivers license on the person driving it out) then the vehicle will stay in the storage yard till its ready and legal to go...

Now the "large fee" well daily storage rates in some areas are as low as 10.00 a day and I have heard of some as high as 75.00 a day. Those fees are different also as each city, county or state has different rates for storage regulated by law and in some areas the tow company gets to charge its own rates.

Weekends, holidays and nights, the vehicle is still taking up space and so they are able to charge "ground rental fees" which is another name for STORAGE...

Hope this helped, but I see no other choice than to follow the law and to pay the fees as they are.
