Towing Issues: Hawaii Towing Laws, storage fees, tow company

Question
My mom is the registered owner of my vehicle and my car was towed by a privately owned tow company, she lives on another island and The manager of the towing agency advised we cannot pick up the car and have to pay all towing/storage fees until she send a notarized letter or flies here in person to pick up the car, is there anything around that?

Answer
The tow company is correct. A power of attorney would also work. It's really not that big of deal. If your mom went to the local bank with a letter listing the vehicle and stating she authorizes you to receive or release the car, then have it notarized, or a power of attorney for the vehicle and have it FedEx to you. The letter must give the exact description of the vehicle, Vin, color, year, make, model, etc. the more information the better. A power of attorney for the vehicle would be better in the long run because it also gives you the right to the vehicle for any other situations should they arrive in the future.
