Towing Issues: towing limits, commercial drivers license, ford f 350

Question
Our company has a Ford F-350 Diesel dually.  It is rated at 11,000+ GVW and has a "commercial" license plate. We are in the state of Georgia.
How heavy a trailer (& load) can we tow legally if"
a. the driver has a regular driver's license?
b. the driver has a CDL B license?
or, do we just need a CDL A qualified driver?
Thanks, Luke

Answer
This is not one of the areas that I can really answer, but the GVW (gross vehicle weight) is not the same as the Gross vehicle combination rating. That is the key issue here...

The truck will have another sticker which will tell you what it is rated for that way..

Plus things like tire ratings, hitch ratings and the like all come into play in this issue.

Since you say it is "commercially licensed" then it would require the driver to have a Commercial drivers license when doing any towing of trailers and since it is over 10000 pounds then they would also have to have a "DOT Medical Card"

I would say (my thoughts) that you could get away with a Class B license but a Class A is always better.

Best answer is to check with Georgia DOT and the drivers license department as they would have the specific answers to the "what about this" which always comes up.

Hope this helps and sorry I can not provide a more specific answer.
