Towing Issues: Can towing damage rack and pinion steering, front wheel drive, rack and pinion steering

Question
Yesterday, my husband was parked in visitors parking at my daughters apartment complex to sign a lease. He parked our 2005 front-wheel drive Chrystler town and country van in between other vehicles nose first with the wheels facing forward.

When he came out a tow truck was pulling our vehicle by the front end. The tow truck obviously had to snatch it out of the space to hook it up.The wheels were turned all the way to the left. The driver then dropped the truck and left without an apology event though it was parked legally.

My husband drove it and heard noise from the front end, took it to the dealer and found out the steering was damaged. Could this have been caused by the tow truck?

Answer
Well without seeing the vehicle and looking at things there, the chances of damage happening are there, but for the steering to be damages usually means that something was hooked to it and then pulled on...

I suppose that if it was winched backwards it might have done something but that is kind of hard to really say..

I wish I could help more but not being there or seeing pictures,  really limits my ability to determine things...

Talk it over with the dealer and see if they can explain what happened to you. Also from the sounds of it, you did not have to pay the tow truck for the attempt to tow it (drop fee) and so I guess it would be hard to prove they did anything... Or they will deny even being there...

It sounds like a "they say, you say" deal there...

Good luck.
