Towing Issues: my car needs to be towed, key needed while towing

Question
I have a 1999 dodge intrepid and I blew a head gasket I think, anyways it needs to be towed, I believe it is a front wheel drive car and so my question is, do I need to leave my key for the tow guy or can he tow it the way it is, and since I believe it is front wheel drive does that mean it HAS to be towed from the front??

Answer
Yes any FWD vehicle needs to be towed from the front, just as RWD from the back and AWD with dollies or all wheels off the ground. Any good towing operator will ask for the key to be present before towing a vehicle. They may need to manually back to car so they can get to the front of the car, need to turn the wheel to straighten the wheels, get inside the car to check the emergency brake before towing & make sure it's on while they are unloading the vehicle to make sure it doesn't roll away. Plus, the repair shop will require the key to be with the car when they drop it off. EX: They may need to put the car in gear to roll it to a lift. If you are not sure of the towing company, you can call the repair shop & see who they use to do their towing. Many times the repair shop will pay the towing company, so you only have one bill to pay. Make sure they don't mark up the tow bill. You may also check with your insurance company and if you have roadside service, it should cover the cost of the tow. If you don't have roadside service, they may still call the towing company they use for you.
Good Luck,
