Towing Issues: Motorcycle was totalled and towed. Problems followed., storage fees, lien laws

Question
In June I was in a wreck on my bike, I was the only one involved and my bike was towed. When I got out of the hospital I received a statement from the tow company and called them to see if I could send them the title for the bike so they could sell it to be recycled without having to wait for the 30 days to lien sale the bike. I wanted to avoid the daily storage fees but the person I talked to said there wasn't anything they could do with the title. Now I have a collection notice for 2,100 dollars and interest is being added on to that. I don't think I should have to pay that much for all the storage fees on a bike that was totaled when I was willing to sign over the bike and let them sell it so I wouldn't accumulate storage fees. I feel that they did this just to get more money from me and could really use your advise.

 Thank you,
 Tyler Olson

Answer
Sorry about your bike, from our family who also ride. When you called them and offered to sign the title over, our company would have ask you to pay the original tow bill and sign the title over for us to be able to dispose of the bike. You should have been mailed a certified letter with the amount you owed, the amount of storage for each day, admin. fees along with the date of an auction.
Did you? Check under www.municode.com, go to the library in your state and find your local areas towing lien laws.Make sure they did everything by the book. Sadly, at this point all you can do is hope to find a mistake on their part. Such as the ad not running in time, failure to send you a notarized letter, so on. Be sure to check the amount of days on each of these.
Best of Luck, Sorry the towing company who towed your bike didn't work with you.
