Towing Issues: Excesive Towing Cost, mass laws, vehicle registrations

My car towed under 100 feet and cost $117 (90 tow + 8.3% fuel + 20 for storage)!  This happened in Holyoke Massachusetts when my vehicle was taken for expired registration.  I was told the state allows a maximum fee of $90 but that sometimes a town council may vote to lower that rate. How can I find out if that is the case in Holyoke?

Unless you can check out the local laws, (which I did not find any for that area) you seem to be charged what is legal, even if it was towed only  100 feet...

I know that Massachusetts does consider the vehicle registrations a "vehicle tax" and as such they tend to get aggressive on "collecting"...

There are several sections on Mass laws which deal with this, but instead of me spending hours searching though each and every section as they relate to different areas and such, I think that the best method would be to check with the local tax office and see what section applies to your area..
