Towing Issues: Towing package needed?, pop up camper, bumper hitch

I'm thinking about purchasing at 2005 Dakota (v8), but there is no towing package.  I have a pop-up camper that weighs around 1,000 lbs.  Is it necessary for me to have a towing package?  Also, what does it take to install the wiring for the camper's tail lights?  I'm a bit leery of pulling something attached to the rear bumper.

this is not my area of expertise, but the wiring issue is solved with some systems which plug into the wiring harness and allow the addition of trailer light plugs..

I agree on the bumper hitch issue, and there are thousands of places where you can get a frame mounted hitch installed..
