Towing Issues: Towed from Apartment Complex, parking stickers, tow company

Question
I live in an apartment complex in Houston, Texas that issues parking stickers to its residents.  I had to have my windshield replaced and because I work late, was unable to get a new sticker from the office.  My car was towed without warning even though my vehicle is on file in the office.  I had to pay $207 to get it out of impound. Is this proper procedure?  If I have an overnight guest park in front of my apartment will their vehicle be towed?  The people in the office said it is beyond their control because the towing company comes in the middle of the night and cannot check to see if the vehicle belongs in the parking lot or not. This seems ridiculous to me.

Answer
Well this sounds as if the parking lot is "patrolled or cruised" to find violators by the tow company... This style of towing is one where there are lots of problems.

when you had the windshield replaced, it does create lots of problems as you "KNEW" you needed a sticker to legally park in the lot. That is what happened, no permit sticker = you got towed...  As to how to fight it, well it goes back to your knowledge of the parking requirements.
$ 207.00 does not really sound real bad compared to other prices I hear about.

As to the vehicle being on file with the office, and not on file with the tow company... That is a problem also, which has no real answer on how to keep it current. Rental vehicles, new vehicles, new tenants, guests all would make it a daily updated list for everyone involved.

And the guest issue, well they should have some spaces available for guests to park in... I am betting you parked in your regular space and did not think about the sticker being gone at that moment. As a result the tow company (who most likely knew it was the right vehicle but did not have a visible permit) towed it...
