Towing Issues: Worst that could happen for taking my car back?, small claims court, tow yard

Question
Ohio-

If my car gets towed and is sitting in the impound lot- What would happen if I just went in and took my own property back?  All they have to prove they towed my car would be my license plate...

Answer
I am at a loss here to really understand this question...

You are going to go into the tow yard and take your property and license plate back so they have no idea of who owns the vehicle ?   First of all it is also listed on the paperwork the minute it is picked up...

Well in most tow companies they have you check in at the office and are escorted to the vehicle to remove only what the law says they have to let you take...

Now if you are talking about entering the impound lot without them knowing, then it becomes criminal trespassing...

Now the reasoning you have as to only knowing who owns the vehicle by the license plate, well that is wrong... The vehicle identification number which is attached to the vehicle in several locations is used to register and show who owns the vehicle via DMV records.

But just so you know, the state law says that the last registered owner of the vehicle (hope its in your name) is responsible for any and all towing, storage and other fees and can be sued for the fees in small claims court, or sent to a collection agency.
