Towing Issues: Towing cross country, dodge ram 1500, towing dolly

Question
I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 1/2 ton 6 cyl, manual.  Does it have the capacity to use a towing dolly to pull a 2004 Jeep Liberty Sport, 6 cyl.? We live in NC, but we're moving to TX.  Thanks.

Answer
well, I am not really an expert at this section of towing, but I have some information I found...

the Dodge specs are close to this for weight rating, engine sizes and bed lengths are factors...

Weights: gross vehicle weight rating (lbs) 6,600, curb weight (lbs) 5,093, gross trailer weight braked (lbs) 4,250 and max payload (lbs) 1,510

And the jeep weights around 3900 to 4500 pounds depends on 2 or 4 wheel drive...

Add in a dolly at about 500 pounds... It starts to get close to max limits. But FYI, if the jeep is 4 wheel drive then you would be best to use a car trailer to prevent the chance of damage happening to the transmission and other drive train parts... And the trailer is heavier, so it would get closer to the limits...

I hope this helps you
