Towing Issues: tow away charge, nut shell, towing companies

Question
In Los Angeles,Ca.,I had a car tow away,I can not aford to get the car out, so the towing yard sold the car for storing fees. How they are billing me for extra money becaues they did not get enought from the sale the car to cover the storege fee. Do I own them ?

According the various DMV laws, the vehicle owner is responsible for any and all towing fees owed above the proceeds of the sale of the vehicle..  (That's a simple cut down answer for you)  
Also a lot of towing companies do use collection agencies to recover the fees also... And there are several states which have laws which will suspend your drivers license and or license plates for unpaid towing fees...  California is not doing it yet (at least I do not think so)

But in the nut shell you are responsible for the money...
