Towing Issues: Bumper tow U-Haul trailer, u haul trailers, chevy silverado

Question
We have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 manual transmission truck w/a tow bumper.  We are moving & wanted to haul a large trailer from U-Haul.  The capacity for the large trailer is 3500 lbs.  I noticed in other questions, you mentioned the bumper being stamped for 3500 lbs.  Where would that be stamped?  U-Haul is only letting us tow a 6x8 trailer because we can't prove the towing capacity of the tow bumper.  It isn't in th e manual & we called Chevrolet & they couldn't give us an answer. Of course we are moving tomorrow, so it would be great to get an answer before then.

Answer
I don't remember ever talking about the capacity of a bumper for towing, but 3500 pounds sounds like about the max that I would recommend.

If it is stamped on it, it would be around the license plate area.

Also remember that if the CAPACITY of a trailer is 3500 pounds that the total weight including the trailer could well be over 5000 pounds.  U-haul trailers are not all that light.
