Towing Issues: towing 5000 GVWR w/M-37 or Datsun Patrol, california vehicle code, nissan datsun

Question
I bought a Boxer minitrack loader TD327 (2500 lbs)and now need to move it. Is the Bri-Mar DT508-5 dump trailer ok for this? Next, can my 1965 Nissan (Datsun?) Patrol pull this on the highway legally and safely? (I think the patrol weighs about 3400 pounds). Finally, my military M-37 (Dodge) 3/4T (not licensed for the highway) should pull the trailer fully loaded (2.2cubic yards) up and down very steep roads (4 wd) with the minitrack loader on private land. Any advice appreciated. I tried to read the California vehicle code on the subject and couldn't figure out the GCWR definition or whether the Patrol could pull the trailer legally either on the highway or safely on the steep grades I'm anticipating.

Answer
OK, your just havin' fun with ole' Don now aren't you!  :)

Really, I don't think the Patrol is a US vehicle, and I could really find no information about it, seems they were Australian?.  Engine size and suspension would determine if you could tow the loader (and be sure to add in the weight of the trailer for it, that shows as 1300 pounds).

The Bri-Mar DT508-5 dump trailer has a load capacity of about 3700 pounds.  But that is for LOOSE stuff like dirt, sand, gravel.  A loader on tracks or wheels may stress the floor in a way that can't be predicted.

Their web site says you can load your ATV on it, but they don't weigh near 2500 pounds.

What you do with the military vehicle on your own property is your own business, I would suppose that if the Dodge is in good shape it would tow it just fine.

As for the legal question, the trailer and loader won't be over the trailer GCVWR of 5000 pounds, so if you have brakes on it (highly recommended) and a proper hitch and tags, then I would think you would be OK.  Be sure to tie down the loader safely.
