QuestionI went to Newark (newjersey) to see an appartment.and i parked my car in the premises of burger king.I returned within 10 min. and the person was towing my car.i requested him to give my car and i will pay him.He said I can not give you the car andyou will have to pay heavily and that too in the towing office and he just took it right infront of my eyes.i walked to the towing office where the person who was sitting gave me receipt of 209$ (towing charge65$, Admiss fee25$, trans25$, winch75$,storage 10$.)I just cant understand why all this charges.I want such people to be punished,so that they wont behave in such a way to other people. do guide me.
AnswerOK, I can not say why they did not do a release at scene (drop fee) on the vehicle when you were there.. I am not sure about some of the laws in Newark, but in some areas towing companies doing impounds do not get to charge if they are still on the lot and have not moved the vehicle.. They depend on the motoring public not being familiar with the laws and that is why they say you have to get it at the yard...
Just a thought here.
Now the charges, I am not sure about them, but it sounds like there are a few I would question... Winch fee ? is that to drag it up on the deck ?? questionable to me..
The Admiss fee and Trans fee wow what is the reason for those fees...
As to how to punish the towers, I know this will sound stupid, but if the people park legally and do not trespass on others property then they will be out of work... I know not good but its the basic answer to this issue..
Now New Jersey is changing laws right now regarding impounding vehicles.. It will take some time, but it still will not stop the towers that just do not care about rules and just want the money...
