Towing Issues: Car inside a rental truck, gas fumes, micro car

I am renting a 16' truck to drive from Colorado to New York.  I don't have a lot of things to fill the trailer, but I was wondering if it's possible to put my car inside and drive the truck that way.

In a word, no.  Unless you have a micro-car and then you would have to be able to tie it down correctly, or when you hit the brakes, the car will come visit you in the cab of the truck!

Talk to the rental people, they should be able to advise you.  Chances are unless the truck is designed for that purpose, it would be against their rules and quite dangerous to put a car inside a truck like that.  Think of gas fumes collecting and possibly getting ignited by a spark from a light?
