Towing Issues: Can we tow a Dually with my truck?, dual rear wheels, tow dolly

Question
We have a Chevy Silverado 250 Diesel. We need to tow our 1 ton dually to a repair shop ourselves.  Is this possible?  Do you know if there is a tow dolly with enough capacity to handle a 1 ton Dually? Do you think we could rent a trailer big enough?

Answer
Yes, I think your 2500 will probably be able to handle towing the dually.  not knowing the specific options or even the year of the 3/4 ton truck, I can't say what the exact capacity is, but it should at least be over 6500 pounds, and I don't think the Dually weighs that much.  You need to add in the trailer though.

Check with your Chevy dealer for towing capacity, or it should be listed on a sticker on the drivers door or door frame.

As to capacity of a rental dolly or trailer, you can easily get that from the rental company.  Measure the truck at the dual rear wheels and see if it will fit on their flatbeds, that is the best way to move it.

You can always just take off the outer set of wheels, and then it should fit a regular trailer.  Just put the extra wheels in the bed, but be sure to tie them down, they could bounce out!
