Towing Issues: Towing charge if show up before car was towed, shop rite, computer problem

Question
I parked my car in a shopping plaza (Shop Rite) parking lot and went to one of the stores adjecent to the shopping lot plaza. When I returned, my license plate number was already taken and there was a red sticker on the windshield saying that I parked illegally and my registration was taken. I drove away BEFORE the car was towed. Am I still responsible for paying the tow charge even though the car was never towed based on the information from my license plate (I live in New Jersey)?

Answer
I would say there is not a tow charge as they did not show up and do anything... But consider that a warning and remember that if you park there again and go elsewhere...

The laws in New Jersey have recently changed regarding towing from Private Property and as such I believe have placed more rules on signs and notices now before towing...

I wish I had the links to the new laws but I had a computer problem and I lost all my information links (am trying to get them back) so I really do not have the specific laws at the moment...

But I think you are safe from any towing fees for that episode.
