Towing Issues: Vehicle got towed when its in tenant parking lot, leasing office, honest mistake

Question
Hi Richard,
I leave in an Appartment Complex in Columbus,OH. The Tenants are not allowed to park their vehicles in the Leasing Office Parking lot during BUSINESS hours.
I parked my car on saturday night the leasing parking lot and when i saw the vehicle at 12.15 PM on sunday, there was a sticker that said "traffice voilation and subject to towing", (I was of the impression that the office opens at 1PM on sundays, but they changed to 12.00 Noon) and Immediatly I removed the vehicle from that place and parked in the Tenants parking lot, and removed the Sticker. Surprisingly the towing company after 20 mins or so around 12.40 PM put my vehicle on their truck, my wife paid the penalty and got the vehicle back, there itself in the lot only. She was not aware that I moved the vehicle to tenants lot and I wasn't there at that moment.
When contacted the apartment staff, they said they have called for towing.
When contact the towing company, the contact person told that the instructed the driver to tow the vehicle if its in the leasing office lot. But the towing company person is still trying to get in touch with the driver.

What can i do in this situation. Can the towing company tow it? or the Apartment people were supposed to be present at the time of tow. The bottom line is, I would like to know whether my vehicle was subject to be towed.
If not I want to know whoose mistake is and whom to complain ragarding this.

Please help me.

Thanks

Answer
Well hard to say, but this sounds like the vehicle was specifically ordered towed.

Now without the knowledge of how far apart the tenants lot and the office lot was  it could be an honest mistake on the part of the towing company, since they were called to tow your car..

Now as to legal or not, it's hard to really say if it was if it was as you said it was...
Sounds like a bit of he said, they said with the location of the vehicle when the tow truck arrived.
