Towing Issues: towing, wheel drive vehicles, 4 wheel drive vehicles

I have a 1989 toyota surf 4wd with an automatic trans. A friend told me i may not be able to flat tow it. I want to move it about 10km, and am wondering the best way to tow it without stuffing up my trans.

I think that it would be hard to answer this question, as its a vehicle I am not familiar with... Now I am thinking you might be doing a one time move if I read it correct?

If more than one time you might just get a trailer for it to protect the transmission... But if its broke down, I would suggest calling a tow truck and have it towed with a flatbed...

Now some 4 wheel drive vehicles can be towed with the rear wheels lifted if the vehicle can be placed into 2 wheel drive which "USUALLY" applies to the rear wheels only... This vehicle does look like our 4 runner over here and we can tow them from the rear.
