Towing Issues: truck towed from apartment complex, mail theft, small claims court

Question
Last night there was no visitor parking or street parking outside my complex so I parked in the regular area without a sticker as I has traded cars for the weekend with a friend. The car was towed and they charged me $240 for it. My problem is that the security company are the ones who alert the towing company, and I believe they are getting kick backs for it, (this seems to be the only thing they keep on top of, they don't seem to be doing anything about the person who steals my mail and parcels or breaks into cars). Is there anyway that I can fight this? Do I have any rights?

Answer
While kickbacks may seem to be happening, in fact they are usually illegal in most cities / states..

Sorry that your experiences with the security company leave such a bad taste in your mouth. Some "security companies" are only hired to deal with the parking problems, not other issues, so its a WORD DEFINITION issue there...  If its as you say have you reported the thefts to the proper officials... Police have some luck with mail theft, but the POSTAL POLICE are much better at solving the crimes.. Its a federal law to steal mail..

As to the towing of your borrowed vehicle, I am sorry but the way you described it, you broke the rules in the interest of convenience (no parking on street or in visitor spaces), so you knew you would get towed for parking in areas you should not park in...

Now of course if you still feel that you were wronged in being towed, you can always go to small claims court, but the only matter would be to establish if the vehicle was illegally parked or legally parked.  I doubt you would win on that matter.
