Towing Issues: towing a boat, 2003 mitsubishi montero, max payload

Question
Richard,

I have just purchased a boat weighing just under 5000lbs. That boat and trailer. The tongue weight is about 250lbs. I hope to tow it with a 2003 mitsubishi montero with a 3.8 litre engine. This SUV has a Class 3 hitch install. I would appreciate your insight.

Thanks,

Mark

Answer
This is one that is real hard to call for me as its kind of out of my area of expertise, it would seem that its real close to the limits which are listed below... You might be able to do it with no problems but remember that you will have all that EXTRA stuff to consider also,  boat fuel, fishing or ski supplies, food, clothes all that will add up..

Check it out real close and see what everything ACTUALLY WEIGHS and you should know more..

Weights: gross vehicle weight rating (lbs) 6,085, curb weight (lbs) 4,784, gross trailer weight braked (lbs) 5,000 and max payload (lbs) 500
