Towing Issues: Wheel bearings, wheel bearings, stress cracks

Question
Two different questions, actually.  Last winter a large tree fell on my boat which was on a trailer.  This spring I went to pull the trailer and one wheel wouldn't turn.  I'm not sure if it is corrosion (I use the boat in saltwater) or a damaged bearing from the tree falling on it.  In any case, I can't get the wheel off.  I removed the nut and there is plenty of grease in there but I've jerked, pried and hammered on the wheel to no avail.  I soaked the bearing in liquid wrench for about four hours and now I can turn the wheel but it takes all my strength.  Ideas for getting the wheel off?
Q. 2.  Just returned from a trip pulling a 5th wheel camping trailer.  One brake is making a terrible noise when I apply the brakes.  I've pulled the two wheels on the left side and all looks okay to me.  Figure to repack the bearings before trying wheels on the other side.  Any thoughts on what I should be looking for?  Brake shoes look fine and drums are shiny and smooth on the two I've pulled.  I'm thinking maybe a broken spring?  Anything else?

Answer
Jerry,
#1, is this a wheel with brakes?  have you tried backing off the brake shoes a little?  I assume you have removed the tire/wheel and are down to the brake drum?

Check that the axle isn't broken and the wheel touching the inside of the fender or frame.  Because of the tree falling, be sure to check the entire frame/axle/spring setup for stress cracks or failures.

#2  Have you tried having someone walk beside the unit when you apply the brakes at slow speed?  This should let you know which side, but if you checked one side and it looks good and the noise is still there, it is a good bet the problem is the other side.

It could be any number of things including something loose inside the drum getting between the shoe and drum.  Could be a shoe coming apart or worn through.  You will just have to pull apart the other side and look.
