Towing Issues: TOWING PROBLEMS, center consoles, signature authorization

Question
My vehicle was towed for not having a parking permit displayed. There was no authorization to the tow company or signature from anyone. I had to pay $300 to get it out. About 3-4 days later I traded my car in I was told by the company to display my expired permit for the time being it would not get towed. I had the expired permit in the window and the valid permit in the side of my door I forgot to put up.. when I remembered I went outside and my new vehicle had already been towed. Again with no 1 hr time frame or signature/authorization. I had to pay another $250...all within a week. Does this sound legal?

Answer
Does this sound legal???  lets answer this one first...

If you park in a lot where the permit is required and has to be current, then yes it sounds legal...

If you can not comply with the rules for parking then you get towed...
Sorry it was towed the second time before you remembered the permit you had in the vehicle not correctly displayed..  In defense of the towing company, its hard for them to see permits in the door pockets, inside closed glove boxes or center consoles, or over the visor.. They are looking for them in the specified locations.. No see it then car goes bye bye.. that simple..  I have towed many vehicles over the years which had valid permits but the vehicle owner failed to display them properly so we could see them and avoid the hassles and arguments which followed.. I have always taken pictures of the vehicles which were going to be towed to PROVE that the permit was not in place when it was towed...

Now the prices are about the right amount for services rendered. Sorry you had to pay all that money out in one week.. But breaking rules usually has a price.

Now the towing of it with no signature, well it sounds like there is a patrol agreement in place for that(which is a signed authorization spelling out reasons vehicles can be towed) between the management and the towing company..
This is a very common practice in the towing industry to provide services like this.. It's easier for parking violations to be caught than the property owner or manager trying to catch them 24 /7   But it does make the towing companies look bad.. But remember if the vehicle is parked legal then they have no vehicles to be towed ..

It's hard to really answer more of this without knowing the city or state to help you with the rules and regulations regarding the towing procedures . .
