Towing Issues: Towing a 1990 Jeep Automatic, jeep wrangler yj, jeep wrangler

Question
I have an RV and want to tow my 1990 Automatic Jeep Wrangler YJ. Do I put the transmission in Park and Transfer case to Neutral? Is that the correct way to setup for tow? But when I make turns on the RV, aren't the front wheels on the jeep locked so it won't turn when the transmission is in Park? Please advise.

Answer
I will admit I do not know the exact answer to this question.

I did some research and came across this page with lots of good information:

They seem to say tow with the transfer case in Neutral and the transmission either in gear or neutral.  The one thing they seem to be sure about is tie the shifters so they can't possibly bounce back into gear!

Of course the best way to tow is on a trailer, second best would be with the front wheels on a dolly and take the driveshaft off to the rear wheels.

Your owners manual really should have lots of information on this, and I will have to refer you to that and your jeep dealer.  They should have plenty of literature.

Another source would be a major motorhome dealer.  They should have plenty of experience at hooking up and recommending flat towing methods.

I hope this has been of some help.
