Towing Issues: Damage When Towing My Car?, tow truck operators, drive wheels

Question
I recently had my 2004 Volkswagen GLI Sport towed.  When I picked it up, I noticed a sqeal when I turn sharply to the left or right and can't shake the thought that something is wrong.  Also, the car seems to be rumbling in the heat/AC panels.  Maybe it's just my imagination.  Is any of this viable with getting a car towed?  I asked how it was towed and I got mixed answers.  It was either from the with my back wheels up or the entire car on a flat bed.

Thanks for any help.  It would be GREATLY appreciated.  :)

Answer
Your GLI is front wheel drive, so if they towed it they had to either put it on a flatbed, or tow by the front with the rear wheels on the ground, or put the front wheels on a dolly.  You should not tow a car with the drive wheels on the ground if you can avoid it.

Manual transmission cars can be towed short distances with the transmission in neutral, but still, that isn't ideal.

Tow truck operators are like any other occupation, there are good ones and there are bad ones.  The good ones, know where to hook to and how to tie down to prevent damage.  The bad ones will tear up a car in minutes and usually you don't know about it till later.

I would take your car to a good mechanic (VW Dealer or good independent) and have it carefully inspected front to back.  Look for evidence of where they hooked and tied to when it was towed.  Check for bent parts and damaged parts.

I recommend you do this as soon as possible.
