Towing Issues: Towing/Impound, certified mail, soldiers and sailors act

Question
I am in the military and had gotten back from deployment. I moved into my new apartment and had to leave again for a month only after being in for 2 weeks. My car was towed for expired tags and since I was gone for a month they auctioned it off. I am now without a vehicle and a debt from the towing. I was never notified to it being towed and the complex I am staying at never knew anything. Is there a law that is supposed to protect military from this sort of thing. I feel like the state is against me for serving the country.

Answer
well the soldiers and sailors act is supposed to have some provisions in it, but not sure they really apply to this kind of problem..

Notification of you regarding the towing, well the letters are mailed out to the last registered owners address and if you moved then it might not of been forwarded.. Certified mail is how this is done where you (or someone) have to sign for the letter ...  BUT THAT MAIL is not forwarded..

With out knowing what state you are in, its hard to really answer any more questions without a generalized answer.  I would check with your base legal department and see what they can do for you. You might have some provisions which I am not aware of ...
