Towing Issues: towing a car, certified mail, storage fees

I had a car sitting on a friends land that he was going to sell for me.  I have seen this friend several times and he reports it still not sold.  He is not only friend but family- now i find out he has had the car towed and sold for "storage" fees.  He never once tried to contact us or told us about storage fees-  what can we do .  police say he has the right to tow it off his property but to sell it and not even let us know  we live in va if this will help thanks any and all advise will be appreciated.

Well now that sounds interesting.   I think that he has violated a few laws, specially if the vehicle was last registered to you.  

The law says that the last registered owner should be notified by certified mail, regarding the towing and storage of the vehicle.  
 
I think its time to go consult with a lawyer for this one and get some legal advice.
