Towing Issues: Towed Vehicle from my apartment?, motor vehicle department, federal provisions

Question
I live in Oregon.  I have lived in my apartments for 3 years.  We just had a change in management and They had my vehicle towed for expired tags.  I had a agreement with the prior management that it was ok.  They had put the "Final Warning" sticker on my driver side window facing bushes.  It was towed the same day 6 hours later.  They told me it was there policy but I had my rental agreement before this new management came in.  My question is,  did they tow my vehicle legally?  Also I did have it register to my apartment and they never notified me.

Answer
Sorry for the delay, but work has been busy for me.

First of all, I hate to say it but management changes always cause problems because of the "knowledge" of the old firm does not transfer.

Now as you mentioned, the lease agreements are keys in lots of cases. But basic practices, is where unlicensed vehicles are not allowed on the property. I am not talking about tags expiring 2 or 3 days ago, I am talking about the ones that are 6 months or more out.. (certain exemptions are granted for military personnel deployed under some federal provisions)

Now as to legally, I would have to say yes, they did it legally with what they have. Can you fight it, of course that's the American way and of course a court might agree with you. But as anything, you might loose also.

The stickers, well they usually place them on the drivers side windows as its the one that people get in so they can be moved. There is no real rule as to where notices should be put..

Why did they not notify you?  that goes back to the change in management.  Should they require you to register all your vehicles, it would help, but also remember that people rent, borrow and buy new vehicles. Sometimes management does make mistakes and towing happens. But a lot of people just do not feel that they should have to register vehicles with anyone but the motor vehicle department (DMV)

Hope this sheds some light on this, but it might be a case of lifes lessons learned.
