Towing Issues: tow dolly vs. tow bar, rear overhang, scion xb

Question
Thanks for your reply, I was concerned about that. My local Roadtrek service writer suggested that there's an electric pump I can install on the transmission cooler line of the Scion, so the trans fluid circulates even tho the engine is not running. This, he says, will allow me to tow. Have you heard of this? Any thoughts? What tow dolly mfr's would you recommend?

-----Question-----
I have a 2006 Dodge Sprinter based Roadtrek RS Adventurous motorhome. It's on the 158" WB, and has a fairly large rear overhang. It's equipped with a tow package rated 500# tongue wt and 5000# total towed wt. We want to tow our 2005 Scion xB. I'm concerned with driveablility, and risk of damage to Scion and/or Roadtrek. Also don't want to have to store a dolly at home if I can help it, or spend the extra cost if the tow bar will do as well. Can you advise me?
-----Answer-----
Bill,

A 2005 Scion xB with an automatic transmission cannot be flat towed.  The front wheels will need to be on a tow dolly in order to tow it behind your Roadtrek.  A manual transmission on the other hand is a completely different story.

Best of luck,

Answer
Bill,

It sounds as if your service advisor has spoken without knowing the facts.  In speaking with Remco (manufacturer of the lube pump kits he was suggesting) a lube pump will not work on the Scion due to the transmission design.  Their opinion is that the front wheels cannot be touching the ground no matter what you are willing to do to the car.

I only sell one tow dolly here as it is the only one to meet the requirements in BC, Canada.  It is the 2000-1 by Roadmaster.  It is a very well thought out design, but it does cost more than a more basic model.

Good luck,
