Towing Issues: Towing Cars at Condominium, local police department, towing companies

Question
We have a small lot at our condominium with no parking signs posted. This is because if someone parks in this spot, others cannot leave the complex due to the size of the lot. Is it legal for the association to have these cars towed? Should the police be called? How do we enforce the no parking signs so that our residents are happy and mobile?

Answer
OK, well in the lack of more information, such as city or state which will spell out laws regarding this problem I can only give a general answer.

In most all locations, tow away signs are required by law to be posted at the entrances to the parking lot.

Now if they are parking in the way or blocking access, I would suggest that the area is marked as no parking or the curb painted red with "no parking" lettered on it.

Now towing companies can tow from parking lots when they get a signed authorization from the property owner or manager authorizing the tow.
In some areas the police are required to be there when the vehicle is towed, or notified before the tow.

I would check with the local police department about what can be done. They might lead you in the right direction. That and check with a local reputable towing service about what they can do to help you.
