Towing Issues: towing, toyota rav 4, question pool

Question
I have a Toyota Rav 4 2004 2 wheel drive. My car was towed and there was damage to the left front bumper. I met with the man in charge, filled out information, and let him take a picture of the damage. When he got back to me he said the damage couldn't have been caused by one of his towing trucks b/c it was towed on a flatbed, not lifted. The damage shows goring and stretching of the front bumper on the left side near the front of the wheel, where it would have been lifted, and the body shop confirmed this. I think it is the towing company's responsibility to take care of this. What do you think? What can I do? What is the procedure for putting a vehicle on a flatbed? Thank you.

Answer
Dorian, first of all I found this question in a question pool which I did not know existed..So sorry for the delay.

Now on to the question...

A vehicle which is loaded onto a flatbed will have a cable hooked to a part of the suspension under the vehicle and winched onto the bed of the unit. It rides just like it would if you had been driving it down the road.
As to damage to the front of the vehicle, was it towed from the front or back, what was the reason for the tow, where was it taken...

All of these are factors in deciding responsibility of damage.

I have seen lots of shops that tried to place blame on the towing companies for damages they did. But then I have also seen lots of vehicle owners try to place blame for pre existing damage on towing companies..

I think you did right with contacting the tow company, and if they did use a flatbed then it would be harder to cause damage.. Not impossible but real hard.

Hope this helps a bit, even though its real late in getting an answer.
