Towing Issues: Towing Laws, lit area, towing company

Question
I'm near Auburn University in Auburn, AL.  My car was towed last night from an apartment complex due to an ambiguous sign.  It said "Visitor Parking in rear lot."  So I went to the back of the complex and parked in the rear lot.  This morning, I woke up and my car was gone.  I called the towing company and asked them why they towed me, and they said I wasn't in visitor parking.  After walking back to the lot again, there was a visitor's parking sign hidden in the bushes that had an arrow pointing to the lot in front of the "rear lot."  There was no way the sign could have been seen at night in the poorly-lit area.  Is there anything I can do?

Answer
well it does sound like this is a bit covered up but a lot of problems lie in the fact that once the signs are up no one really pays attention to them..

Do you have a suggestion as to who should keep the sign visible?  is it the property owner or the towing company that should trim the bushes..

also in your description it sounds like there might be 2 lots that are differently owned but accessible from either place.  This kind of thing is always a problem...

I think this is one of those life lessons we all have to learn.
