Towing Issues: Front wheel drive car -Towing Damage, wheel drive car, cv boots

Question
Calgary, AB

My car was recently towed from an underground parking garage in error.  The car is a Acura Integra parked face in. The towing company said they had to jack car in order to tow it. What does jacking car mean. The question is:  Is it possible to damage the CV boot during this process.  I am suspect since the car went through a detailed service a a few months ago and no damage was detected on cv.  The CV damage was discovered during a recent oil change.

Answer
Rocco,
That's a tough one to try to determine because you may have needed cv boots anyway, even though the problem manifested itself after your vehicle was towed. I once owned a Honda Prelude which had problems with the cv boots, and I've been told that, along with brakes, Hondas are prone to having problems with their cv boots. So it would be difficult to ascertain whether or not you had an existing problem prior to the vehicle being towed. Check with your Acura dealer to see at what mileage they recommend changing the cv boots on an Integra. If your service writer can determine that you did not, or should not, have required cv boot replacement on your vehicle, it may be easier for you to tell whether or not the vehicle was damaged by the actual tow truck driver. I'm sorry I couldn't help you more, but without knowing all the facts about your vehicle and what actually happened when it was towed (and how it was towed), I couldn't tell you for sure that the tow truck driver did the damage to the cv boots. Your Acura service writer may be more able to tell you whether or not how the vehicle was towed did the damage.
