Towing Issues: 4 wheel down towing, ford explorer xlt, fleetwood bounder

Question
We are purchasing a 1997 Fleetwood Bounder model 35U motorhome with a Ford 460 gas engine.  I currently have a 2005 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD that I would like to tow behind.  What modifications, if any, does it need besides a neutral switch for the transfer case?  And do you know the approximate cost of the neutral switch installation.  (I am also considering trading the Explorer for a Saturn ION, but would rather not.)

Answer
Ken,

I am getting conflicting stories on this truck.  It can be towed flat but some are saying not to do it as it develops a lot of vibration.  I would ask around on some of the RV forums for a general opinion from Explorer owners/towers.  Keep in mind that the Explorer is going to need a braking system in most states, while the Ion will not.  (it will in a few states).

Good luck,
