Towing Issues: towing, dodge ram van, gross axle weight

Question
I have a 95 dodge ram van 2500, I'm towing a 25.5 ft shasta trailer. I'm going across country and have loaded some furniture in it. How can I be certain that I haven't overloaded. And would you happen to know the weight capacities?

Answer
Harry,

I am not sure of the manufacturer's tow rating on the B2500 van.  If you still have the owner's manual, I would consult it.  Also, the GCWR may be marked on the doorjamb sticker.

The trailer should have a GTWR and a Gross Axle Weight Rating on a stamped sticker or plate at the front of the trailer body.

The only way to know whether you've overloaded the trailer is to put it on a scale.  Check around for public scales.  You can use a highway scale for a fee if they're not busy.  Otherwise call a garbage hauling company of landscape supply company as they usually have scales they'll ket you use (for a fee of course).

Good luck,
